All it took was one picture. Skinny girls in bikinis, one thrusting her butt into the pelvis of another suggestively, with a nerdy looking guy in the back. This was how the event was being marketed. I was instantly turned off. “What the hell is this?” I thought. My boyfriend and several of our friends were planning on going to this event called “Bikini Laser Tag”. As I looked up information on the event to decide if I wanted to go, this and other similar photos greeted me. Having been raised by feminists, my mind instantly conjured reactions such as “objectification” and “meat market event”. What I saw through the pictures was a glorified strip club – figured that the only women there would be paid to show up in bikinis and let guys oogle them. Take a cosmic bowling alley / laser tag arena. Kick everyone out at 11. Insert DJ gear and a dozen or so DJ’s. Turn down the lights. Turn up the bass. Let in the girls in Bikini’s and go go dancing gear so they can do all the UV body painting. Have the Umbrella Corp Security forces secure the perimeter. Open the doors at the turn of midnight and let all hell break loose until the sun comes up and we see who is left standing.
